07 Nov Chococoa Baking named a 2013 Editors’ Choice Food Awards Winner by Yankee Magazine
It’s only been a little over year since we moved to The Tannery, but we have quite a bit to celebrate! In it’s current issue, Yankee Magazine has named The Whoopie one the “Editors’ Choice Food Awards in New England”. This is the only whoopie pie named in New England plus the only product on the North Shore that has been given this distinction.
Yankee Magazine said, “There’s real greatness in these mini-pies from husband and wife team Alan Mons & Julie Ganong. The secret is in the filling, which is made with real (local) butter instead of the usual vegetable shortening. The flavors are classic chocolate/vanilla, lemon/lemon cream, chocolate with salted-caramel filling. One little pie (a modest 130 calories) really satisfies.”
Chococoa Baking Company is only four years old!
We’re excited to be recognized Yankee Magazine,” says Alan Mons co-founder of Chococoa Baking Company. “They have driving force behind the promotion of many small New England companies so we know what kind of an impact we can have on a product like ours.”
According to Ganong, “We understand that New Englanders know and love their whoopie pies so we are humbled by this award. There are many companies making whoopies pies in New England but they selected us, which is a real honor.”
Chococoa’s updated version of the traditional whoopie pie is a bite-size, richer tasting gourmet cake made with all-natural ingredients, premium chocolate and pure buttercream. Flavors include the chocolate with “classic” vanilla cream filling, chocolate/espresso cream, chocolate/raspberry, chocolate/ganache, and chocolate/salted caramel and lemon/lemon cream and pumpkin with ginger being the seasonal flavors. Currently a gluten-free Whoopie is in the making to be introduced early 2014.
